Artist Bio
JratMonster is a multifaceted artist native to South Central Los Angeles. Also known as Jrat, the independent artist is committed to his art. He uses underground hip-hop as a platform to raise awareness about the issues affecting everyday people. The self-taught artist started with a SP505 and his PC laptop in his grandmother’s basement. His musical background includes Spanish baladas from his grandfather and oldies gangster culture from his parents. Later, his influences included J Dilla and MF Doom. In collaboration with Menez, “We Up” was released in 2010 as the beginning stone of his rap career. Three years later, in 2013, “South Central” with Rokem became an unofficial anthem for his boom-bap style. Since then, he has created and collaborated in over 13 tracks and singles to spread his message. He earned a degree and certification in Digital Media and Audio in 2023 and started Sewer Vision Media LLC in 2024, setting his vision of creating a movement through his leadership. Inspired by graffiti and skate culture, he hopes to celebrate the vibrancy and resiliency of his community and others with similar experiences.
